FELIX MITCHELL

Dr. Felix Mitchell has served as the Head of the Department of Natural Sciences at Denver Liberty University for over three decades. A distinguished scholar and educator, Dr. Mitchell is renowned for his pioneering research in environmental science and his commitment to advancing scientific understanding through innovative teaching methods.

Dr. Mitchell earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Science from the University of California, Berkeley, where he focused on ecosystem dynamics and environmental policy. His groundbreaking work on the effects of climate change on freshwater ecosystems has been widely published in prestigious scientific journals and has earned him a reputation as a leading authority in the field.

Since joining Denver Liberty University in 1993, Dr. Mitchell has been instrumental in shaping the department’s curriculum and research initiatives. His courses cover a broad spectrum of topics within the natural sciences, including environmental science, ecology, and conservation biology. Dr. Mitchell’s teaching philosophy emphasizes experiential learning and encourages students to engage in research that addresses real-world environmental challenges.

In addition to his role as Head of the Department, Dr. Mitchell has served as a senior researcher at the Denver Environmental Research Institute and has been a key contributor to several large-scale environmental assessment projects. His work has not only advanced scientific knowledge but has also influenced public policy on environmental conservation and sustainability.

Dr. Mitchell has been a member of various national and international scientific committees, including the Advisory Committee for the National Science Foundation's Environmental Research Program and the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Species Survival Commission. His dedication to environmental science has earned him accolades such as the National Excellence in Research Award and the Distinguished Educator Award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Dr. Mitchell is also the author of the influential book Ecological Restoration in the Age of Climate Change (Cambridge University Press, 2017) and has contributed numerous articles to top-tier scientific journals.

He received his B.Sc. in Environmental Science from the University of Michigan and his M.Sc. in Ecology from Stanford University before completing his Ph.D. at UC Berkeley.
