Denver Liberty University (DLU) Opens New Center for Ethics in Technology and Society

Denver Liberty University (DLU) has officially opened the doors of its Center for Ethics in Technology and Society, a forward-thinking initiative aimed at examining the ethical dilemmas and societal impacts of modern technology. As technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and big data continue to reshape industries and communities, the center will explore how these advancements can be harnessed in a way that benefits society without compromising ethical principles.

The center will serve as a hub for interdisciplinary research, bringing together experts from diverse fields such as computer science, law, ethics, and social sciences to tackle the most pressing questions posed by technological progress. Through this work, DLU hopes to lead national and global discussions on ethical technology development.

Addressing Critical Issues in Technological Innovation

As AI and automation become increasingly integrated into everyday life, ethical concerns about fairness, accountability, privacy, and the future of work are more important than ever. DLU’s Center for Ethics in Technology and Society will investigate these issues, working to develop responsible solutions that consider both the benefits and risks of emerging technologies.

“We are witnessing a revolution in technology, but this revolution must be guided by ethical considerations,” said Dr. Laura Warren, Director of the center. “Our mission is to ensure that technological advancements align with society’s core values and serve the greater good.”

Key Initiatives of the Center

• Interdisciplinary Research: The center will engage researchers across various disciplines to study ethical issues such as AI bias, data privacy, and the implications of automation on the workforce. The goal is to generate practical solutions that ensure responsible technology development.

• Curriculum Development: DLU will incorporate ethics and technology courses into its academic programs, equipping students with both the technical and ethical knowledge required to succeed in the tech industry.

• Public Forums and Outreach: : The center will organize public lectures, discussions, and workshops on technology ethics, inviting thought leaders from academia, government, and the private sector to participate.

• Collaboration with Industry: DLU will partner with technology companies to explore how ethical principles can be applied in the design and deployment of new technologies, ensuring that industry innovations are aligned with societal values.

Shaping Future Leaders in Ethical Technology

DLU’s Center for Ethics in Technology and Society will play a pivotal role in preparing students to address the ethical challenges they will face as future innovators and leaders in the tech industry. Students will have opportunities to engage in research, internships, and partnerships that allow them to apply ethical frameworks to real-world challenges.

“Our goal is to ensure that students understand the responsibility they carry in shaping the future of technology,” said Dr. Warren. “We want to empower them with the tools to make ethical decisions throughout their careers.”

Global Collaboration and Leadership

DLU aims to position the Center for Ethics in Technology and Society as a global leader in ethical technology research. The center will collaborate with international institutions and organizations to foster dialogue and develop global standards for responsible innovation.

The center’s work will focus on promoting equity in technological development, ensuring that advancements are designed to benefit all members of society, especially those in marginalized communities who are often disproportionately impacted by new technologies.

Grand Opening and Future Vision

The grand opening of the center will take place on October 25, 2024, with keynote speeches from industry experts and academic leaders, followed by panel discussions on AI ethics, data protection, and the impact of automation on the future of work. These discussions will highlight the critical importance of ethical leadership in the tech space.

In the coming years, DLU plans to enhance its research initiatives, expand partnerships with organizations and institutions, and engage the public in discussions about the ethical use of technology.
